Icons on Display in the Museu de Sao Roque in Lisbon Portugal
A collection of paintings and sculptures of saints who were most venerated by the Society of Jesus, a group that placed particular emphasis on iconography as a means of religious propaganda. The Museu de São Roque is a museum attached to the the Igreja de Sao Roque to display various historical religious artefacts from the church. The 16th century Igreja de São Roque was one of the earliest Jesuit churches in Christendom and features a series of ornately decorated Baroque chapels.
